Help Launch Chicago’s Premier Social Guide for College Students!!

OPPORTUNITY OVERVIEW:
A small, dedicated, team of students from Chicago-based colleges and universities is being sought to launch Chicago’s premier online social newsletter for college and grad students!

This free weekly online newsletter will serve as an entertaining, engaging and current resource for college students to discover best-pick activities in Chicago. From the best concerts, cultural events, and art exhibits, to the best bars, clubs, restaurants, networking events, and attractions, this newsletter will be THE destination for what’s hot in Chicago for college students.

This is a great opportunity to learn firsthand about building a business from the ground up, to have an impactful role in developing and executing the next successful Chicago based e-publication, and to be a part of a product that your friends will thank you for.

You’ll most definitely be part of an effort that will improve and positively transform the Chicago college experience.

YOUR ROLE:
Each student will be a valued team member and will have a meaningful impact in building and implementing this publication. The work environment will require strong performance in both team and individual pursuits. Each student will work closely with the company founder (a 2006 college grad) to achieve position specific goals and ensure relevant skill set development. Depending on your role, you may be interacting with Chicago’s student population and some of Chicago’s leading business and social entrepreneurs and professionals. Students who go above and beyond will be considered for long-term employment upon the launch of the newsletter.

APPLYING:
To apply for one of the positions, please send your resume and no more than a four-paragraph explanation of your interest and relevant work experience to premierpublication@gmail.com. If you have a portfolio of work that can be found online, please include URL information. Depending on your major and school’s policies, class credit may be available for this opportunity. Compensation will be discussed on a case-by-case basis.

POSITIONS AVAILABLE:
1. Web Design & Development:

We’re looking for student(s) experienced in website development and graphic design. From a design perspective, you’ll be designing the newsletter, the website and the newsletter logo. Design experience with Adobe products (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Dreamweaver) is critical. From a development perspective, applicants need to have a firm grasp of several programs and scripting languages (HTML, PHP, MYSQL, JavaScript and AJAX, Flash, CSS etc.).

2. Marketing Coordinator:
The Marketing Coordinator will work closely with the founder to successfully complete two functions: 1) Market Research: You will develop and execute research efforts to solicit feedback on the newsletter idea from students and alumni. Data gathering techniques may include surveys, in-person interviews, and focus groups. This data will be invaluable in finalizing the publication’s content and design. 2) Go-to-market strategy design and implementation: You will be designing and implementing an integrated marketing plan to reach college students and create buzz around the publication. This newsletter will launch on the Depaul campus. You can expect to manage or assist in managing relationships with brand ambassadors, student groups, department faculty, school media, city-wide media and professional groups. Experience in management roles, working with media, coordinating field operations (such as political campaigns) is a plus. Extroverted students with grassroots marketing and/or political experience are encouraged to apply.

3. Writers:
We’re looking for students and college graduates who like to write and take advantage of the City of Chicago. We’re looking for personality, humor, and a compelling writing style. The time commitment would be less than 10 hours per week. We’re most interested in talking to the following four types of people (perhaps you or a friend fits one of these archetypes):

a. The ‘Van Wilder’. The person who puts Wrigleyville, sports, drinking, corn hole, intramural sports and being social before his classes. He’s known on campus as ‘that guy’ who likes to have a good time.

b. The ‘Civic, Cultural and Career Minded’ person. This person enjoys the cultural aspects of Chicago and loves visual and performing arts. This person is big into charity and volunteerism and can be found in the audience listening to guest speakers on and off campus. This person is career oriented and is keen on going to professional and social networking events around town.

c. This person is ‘in the Scene’ and is at all the HOT events in River North, Gold Coast, Lincoln Park and beyond. She knows the club scene well and goes to the hyped product launches, fashion shows and DJ events. She knows the best night to be at ‘that’ upscale lounge or club.

d. Some people might refer to this person as a ‘Hipster’. We’re looking for someone who knows what’s up in the Wicker Park/Bucktown neighborhood and stays current with the latest trends emanating from this area. Music and an artistic lifestyle is important to this person.
