Who Can Use Course OnLine

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is the online section of a course going to be taught separately?

A: No. The instructor that is teaching the in-class section of a COL-enabled course will also teach the online section. The in-class section is held on-campus and is recorded for online students to view.

  • Enrolled students who live outside of the Chicagoland area are considered Online Students and will use the Course OnLine system to pursue one of the fully accredited degree programs at CDM.

  • Students who are enrolled in the on-campus section of a COL-enabled course are expected to come to class. However they may use Course OnLine for accessing additional course material or class lecture recordings if they need to miss a class session due to work conflicts or illness.

  • Though all CDM students have access to COL’s online course management system COLWeb , only students registered for online classes or COL-enabled classes will have access to the actual lecture recordings.

  • Students and faculty only have access to class lecture recordings during the quarter in which they take or teach the course. On the last day of the quarter, all recordings are removed from the web.

  • COL-enabled courses are identified by " Class Notes " in the schedule database on Campus Connection.

  • There is no additional fee for a COL-enabled class.

Special Note To Undergraduate Students

Online courses take a great deal of self-discipline and time-management skills. Historically, undergraduate students registering for online courses fail and withdraw at higher rates than their peers in traditional sections. While CDM policy does not prohibit undergraduate students from taking a limited number of courses online, we strongly encourage you to carefully consider your reasons for registering for the online section. If you have questions about whether or not Online Learning is appropriate for you, please contact your advisor as soon as possible.
