What Is Course OnLine

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Will I have to come to campus for exams?

A: Check your course syllabus for exam dates and instructions. If you are a local student and an exam is given in class, you will need to come to one of DePaul’s Campuses on exam night to take the test. Distant students must make arrangements for a proctor at a local college or university. For more information about exam procedures click here.

Course OnLine (short: COL) is CDM’s unique technology system that provides audio and video of the entire classroom experience through the internet. Course OnLine allows students to take courses or pursue complete degrees online without ever having to set foot on campus.
Students access and download lectures and additional course material, provided by their instructors, through COLWeb and follow the lecture recordings on COLPlayer.

COLWeb is the course management application of Course OnLine. Through COLWeb students access course syllabi, lectures, documents and assignments, keep track of special announcements from the faculty, submit their homework and use e-mail and discussion groups to communicate with other students and faculty.

COLPlayer is COL’s stand-alone lecture playback application. Using COLPlayer students see and hear the professors, their notes on the white board, as well as any of their presentations on the PC and classroom projector. Course OnLine records all of the audio and visual portions of a professor’s live lecture, and uses multiple screens to display all the elements for your viewing. Within 24 hours of the on-site class, online students view the lecture just as it was presented in class. The only difference is that they choose the time and place that works best for them.
