Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I have online students work on group projects?

A: Certainly, as long as the projects don't necessarily require students to all be in one place at the same time. The course management application COLWeb of Course OnLine offers collaboration tools such as e-mail, discussion forums, wikis, etc. that you can make available to your students. However, if you can't see how students living in different parts of the country would be able to complete the group project, then it may be a good idea to offer an alternative assignment to those students.

Page Summary

COLWeb divides the syllabus into three parts:

  • Course Information: Contains course details like course name, number, time and location of in-class course and the link to the course homepage.
Note: Course Information is pulled from the CDM database and cannot be edited through COLWeb.

  • Instructor Information: Contains your individual instructor information. Besides your name and image this section also displays your office location and phone number, your e-mail address, office and advising hours and a link to your personal homepage (if you choose to put a link there). You can Edit Instructor Information if you click on the EDIT button to the right.

  • Course Details: The course details section displays important details for your course such as a course summary or overview, required reading material, course prerequisites, grading details and policies. You can Edit Course Details if you click on the EDIT button to the right.

If you want to import your syllabus from one of your previous course sections go to TRANSFER COURSE DATA in the CONFIGURATION menu or learn about how to Transfer Course Data from previous course sections here.
