Introduction To COL For Faculty

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is the average time I should allow for online students to take the exam?

A: Typically the dates assigned for online students start on the same day as the in-class section and the dates range from 3 to 7 days. You might want to make sure that there is a weekend within your exam timeline. This way, students who work long hours during the week are covered.

Thank you for teaching an online course this quarter. This guide will give you a general understanding of how Online Learning works at CDM.

The intention behind the development of CDM's Course OnLine (COL) was to create a capture system for classroom content that could be implemented on a large scale and that would not put an additional burden on the faculty.

All online course sections have access to the COL lecture recordings and materials from a live class taught on campus. The students in this section, also called online students, though they don’t come to class, are usually expected to complete the same requirements on the same schedule as the students in the in-class section.

What does this mean for you? Our intention is that it should mean relatively little. Online Learning instructors have to contend with a few extra e-mails each week and, of course, extra assignments to grade. Many instructors take a more active roll in engaging their online students, which enhances the learning experience for online and in-class students alike.
