Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I have online students work on group projects?

A: Certainly, as long as the projects don't necessarily require students to all be in one place at the same time. The course management application COLWeb of Course OnLine offers collaboration tools such as e-mail, discussion forums, wikis, etc. that you can make available to your students. However, if you can't see how students living in different parts of the country would be able to complete the group project, then it may be a good idea to offer an alternative assignment to those students.

Page Summary
By default the VIEW GRADEBOOK page displays your GRADING SPREADSHEET containing all students of the current course grouping to the left and all posted assignments on top. Further, you will view the actual homework submission status for each student and assignment.

Filter Options:
Above the spreadsheet you will find 2 Filter Options to influence the current appearance of your grading spreadsheet:
  • Course Filter: Remove individual course sections from the spreadsheet view by unchecking their checkboxes. For example: Use this filter option if you would like to view the submissions for only one course section.
  • Assignment Filter: Remove individual assignments from the spreadsheet view by unchecking their checkboxes. For example: Use this filter option to remove already graded assignments from the spreadsheet view or if you would like to see only a specific combination of assignments together.

If you prefer OFFLINE GRADING you can also download the GRADING SPREADSHEET as EXCEL FILE from the blue box on top of the screen.

Spreadsheet Details:
On the left side of the grading spreadsheet you will view all STUDENT NAMES of the currently active course grouping (double-check COURSE & TERM SELECTOR below the DePaul logo) listed in alphabetical order. The top row of the spreadsheet will hold all your ASSIGNMENT NAMES. Within each assignment column you will view either a specific ICON - representing your students' homework submission status - or after you graded the assignment the individual GRADE for each student:

  •  = Student submission required, but not submitted yet.
  •  = No student submission required.
  •  = Submission available for grading.
  • A or 13 = Your grades appear in blue and underlined.

If you click on one of the icons or a grade you will be transferred to the DETAILED GRADING page for the individual student and assignment.
