Q: I can’t travel to Chicago for exams. What are my options?

A: If you are a remote student registered for an Online Learning class, you will need to arrange for a proctor at a local college or university. You are responsible for making these arrangements in advance of your exam. You are also responsible for any fees charged by the proctor.

The new CDM Course OnLine player for Pocket PC (PPC) provides all the functions of the original COLPlayer. Based on .NET framework, the PPC COLPlayer consists of two parts, the SyncPad and the COLDSPlayer:

  • SyncPad is a synchronizing program, which you will install on your desktop PC
  • COLDSPlayer is the course player in your Pocket PC

The instructions on this page explain how to install the necessary software on your PC and Pocket PC. Note: CDM COLPlayer for Pocket PC currently will not work on Smartphone devices, such as the Motorola Q.

The following items should be installed on your Desktop PC:

  • Microsoft Windows Mobile Version 5.0/ Microsoft Pocket PC 2003
  • Windows Media Player 10 Mobile
  • Microsoft .NET Compact Framework 2.0 SP1 | Download
  • SD/CF Card with 100Mb free space


Install Software

  • Download COLDSPlayer and unzip the downloaded file
  • Open SyncPad folder and run Setup.exe
  • Make sure your PPC is connected to your Desktop PC
  • Open the COLDSPlayer folder and run Setup.exe
  • When the install is successful, you will see an icon for COLDSPlayer in the PPC start menu.


Getting started

  • Download lecture
    Download the desired lecture under VIEW LECTURES from COLWeb using the desktop COLPlayer. Medium bandwidth is recommended.

  • Synchronize pocket PC with desktop PC
    • Run SyncPad.exe from your desktop PC. The SyncPad window will open.
    • Select SD Card\COL (the mobile device path) in the bottom left quadrant of the Syncpad window.
    • The top left quadrant of the SyncPad window shows the local catalog. Navigate to the location of your downloaded lectures in the local catalog. By default, this location is:
ProgramFiles\COLPlayer\Buffer\CDDownloaddirectory
    • Click on the CDDownloaddirectory folder in the local catalog. The list of available lectures will appear in the local file list in the top right quadrant of the Syncpad window.
    • If you do not see a lecture that you have downloaded, press F5 (refresh shortcuts) to refresh the download folder to show all newly recorded downloads.
    • Select the appropriate lecture folder from the local catalog, or double-click on the course folder in the local file list. A folder called 'Medium' will appear in the local file list.
    • Right click the 'Medium' folder in the local file list. You will see a button saying 'Sync To Pocket PC'.
    • Click the 'Sync To Pocket PC' button. The course data will be saved to the COL folder of the SD Card on your Pocket PC.

A Login will be required when you download a new course for the first time. Use your Campus Connect ID and password to continue.


Viewing a Lecture

Select Programs from the Start menu on your mobile device. Launch COLDSPlayer application. The COLDSPlayer will show a list of available lecture recordings. Select the lecture you’d like to view, and click the Play button. The recording will begin playback with the video in the center of the screen.

To change view: Click View, then select video, screenshot, or whiteboard
To exit:  Click File -> Exit
To change the position of the image: Select a new view position from the options shown at the bottom of the screen.
