Frequently Asked Questions
Q: I can’t travel to Chicago for exams. What are my options?

A: If you are a remote student registered for an Online Learning class, you will need to arrange for a proctor at a local college or university. You are responsible for making these arrangements in advance of your exam. You are also responsible for any fees charged by the proctor.

The Course OnLine Player is a stand-alone application that allows you to view your class lecture recordings, download them to your PC, and burn lectures onto a CD. The COLPlayer does not require that you be connected to the internet while viewing, but an initial authorization is required when you first view a lecture.

This quickstart guide will tell you the basic steps you need to know to begin using COLPlayer. Please read the section on digital rights management at the bottom of this page. Detailed instructions on all COLPlayer functions are available in the more detailed COLPlayer Manual.

  6. After you've made your selections, click the START button.

Digital Rights Management & COL Recordings:
COLPlayer uses Digital Rights Management (DRM) to control access to COL lectures on CD or downloaded to your machine. This means that each time you attempt to access a downloaded lecture the first time you will be required to authenticate to our server. After you've authenticated for that lecture, you do not need to be connected to the internet to play the lecture. If you move the CD to another machine, you will be asked to authenticate once again.

All lectures expire on the last day of the quarter in which they were created. This means that the CDs and downloadable lectures will not be accessible after the end of the quarter. All course work should be completed by the end of the quarter.
