Beta Version

Introduction

The Course Online Flash Player is a web based player for viewing Course Online recordings. The COL Flash Player runs on any platform that supports flash technology. This document refers to the beta version of the player which was released in the Spring Quarter of the 2007-2008 academic year.

The COL Flash Player contains several windows representing the video, screen (PC image), and two white boards. Each piece can be dragged to any location on the screen. You may also resize them by dragging the right-bottom corner of each window. There is a Switch Window feature available; each small window (or called Mini window) could switch with the maximized window (Maximized window) by clicking on the button located at the top right corner.

The console, shown at the top of the player, provides controls, such as playback, bookmark, and window controls.

System Requirements and Installation

COL Flash Player requires the following:

  • Web Browser with Adobe Flash 9.0+ support: Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, etc.
  • 512 MB RAM
  • DSL or faster (High Speed Connection recommended)
  • Sound Card and attached  Speakers
  • 1024 x 768 Resolution Monitor or higher

No installation is needed if flash player is already on your system; if the flash plug-in is not installed, COL Flash Player will guide you through the installation process.

Using COL Flash Player

Playing lecture

The COL Flash Player console (shown below, and divided to two pictures) provides a number of useful playback controls in addition to the standard play, pause and stop buttons (1).  A progress bar (2) shows the current position of the playback relative to the length of the entire recording. The triangular position indicator on the progress bar can be dragged forward or backward to adjust playback time. The elapsed and total time of the open lecture (3) follow. The time position control (4) could position the playback accurately. Finally, volume control (6) is also provided on the console.

Bookmark

Located on the COL Flash Player console, Bookmark control (5) provides two functions. Button at left shows a bookmark management window when clicked; Drop down arrow at right pops up a menu of available bookmarks, and go to the bookmark time when selected.

Interface Controls

1. Viewing in full screen
Full screen button (6) could toggle between full screen viewing mode and normal viewing mode.

2. Reset window layout
Reset window layout button (6) relocates video, screen, and white board window to default position and size.

3. Switch window

The fit window button (11) automatically sizes the screen or white board image to fit within the window.
