Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I have online students work on group projects?

A: Certainly, as long as the projects don't necessarily require students to all be in one place at the same time. The course management application COLWeb of Course OnLine offers collaboration tools such as e-mail, discussion forums, wikis, etc. that you can make available to your students. However, if you can't see how students living in different parts of the country would be able to complete the group project, then it may be a good idea to offer an alternative assignment to those students.

Select the date and time your assignment will be due.

     Set Availability Date:
Here you may specify that you do not want the Assignment to be available to your students immediately. By default the current date and time is pre-entered. The Assignments that are currently not available to your students will show up in the list along with the following alert icon.

     Specific Options:
ADD TO GRADEBOOK - The assignment should be added to your gradebook (keep it selected if you want to be able to grade the assignment in COLWeb)
REQUIRES SUBMISSION - The assignment requires homework submissions or not
ALLOW LATE SUBMISSIONS - You still allow students' submissions after the actual due date
DISPLAY GRADES - Allow students to see the grades after an assignment has been graded.  Useful if you want to grade an assignment but not show the grades to the class yet.
Note: For convenience "Requires Submission" and "Add to Gradebook" are pre-selected by default.
