DEPARTMENT: Office of Multicultural Student Affairs
JOB TITLE: Graduate Education and Scholarship Assistant
SUPERVISOR: Assistant Director, Office of Multicultural Student Affairs
This Graduate Assistant reports to the Assistant Director of Multicultural Student Affairs and will serve constituents in the area of career exploration, graduate school transition, and scholarship research. This position requires a commitment to diversity and a desire to broaden students' understanding of multiculturalism, social justice, and leadership. The preferred candidate will have a bachelor's degree from an accredited instituition of higher learning, and enrolled in a Master's degree program at DePaul University. Some evening and weekend hours are required.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist with various OMSA programs and services
Develop and implement a graduate school transition initiative for undergraduate OMSA students
Maintain and distribute quarterly graduate school newsletter
Coordinate logistics for all OMSA scholarships, i.e. Northern Trust, Riversville, Peggy Roach, Jack Kent Cooke, Test Prep, Mazza, and Book scholarship
Collaborates with following offices to enhance graduate school and scholarship efforts: Career Center, Financial Aid, and McNair Scholars program
Performs other duties as assigned
Education and Experience:
B.A. degree required.
Experience working in Higher education setting
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Proven commitment to diversity
High degree of organization
Well developed collaborative skills
Hours/Schedule:
This graduate assistant position is intended to be a yearlong appointment from (July 2008 – July 2009). Summer and winter breaks are negotiable. Work hours are 20-25 hours per week, served primarily Monday thru Friday. Some weekend and evening hours are required. In addition, the graduate assistant may be asked to host office hours at the Loop campus.
Compensation:
Stipend: $10,500.00 disbursed in equal bi-weekly payments over length of appointment
Educational Grant: 4 graduate credit hours per quarter for three quarters paid for by the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs.
